Fish ‘N’ Chips

Due to poor performance and technical issues with the server, I’m moving my site yet again. I’m not sure exactly when this will happen because my site is a low priority to the rest of my clients currently on the same server. You know how it goes, paying clients always come first! For those confused by this rambling, I’m talking about my web design business - High Aspirations, Inc. This server/hosting issue has kept me very busy lately as I tried to resolve issues, come up with alternatives, make the final decision, and then begin implementing it. Anyway, rambling aside, the site will be moving sometime in the coming weeks. I figured now would be the perfect time to ask everyone to let me know what they think, tell me what you like and what you don’t about Fish ‘N’ Chips, the site, the newsletter, the links directory, everything and anything. Now is your chance to be heard!

Just a note to let you know that I’ve renamed the Wallpaper of the Month category to just Wallpapers. I will still post my Wallpaper of the Month to that category but now I will also include any National Geographic Photo of the Day that is reef/fish/water related in that category as well as the Marine News one.  I have to go back and tweak some of my old posts and I’ll do that as soon as I can but from now on you can just click Wallpapers to find all the Wallpapers.  I thought that made the most sense! Anyone who’s linked directly to the Wallpaper of the Month category will still have working links so don’t worry about that either!

I have completely redone Fishy Happenings, the events listings for Fish ‘N’ Chips. It was driving me nuts how they were posting the old way. Every time I added an event it generated a mailing and they never sorted in an order that made sense. I mean really, who cared when I posted them, the important thing was the event’s date. So, I replaced the whole thing!

You can now find a listing of the upcoming events on the side menu of the newsletter section of my site. That list will only show the next five events. You can also find the Fishy Happenings on the site’s main menu in the Info section. There you’ll see a link to Fishy Happenings for the Upcoming Events and below that, a link to Past Events. The Upcoming Events are also available as an RSS Feed.

Announcements of events will no longer be emailed to you via your current subscription method. If you want to get the events, use the RSS Feed. At this point, I have no plans to setup a FeedBurner subscription service for them but if the demand is great enough, I will. So, let me know if that is what you want via comments to this post.

And, for those of you out there who run your own WordPress blogs and post events, here’s a plug for GigPress, the plugin that I’m now using for Fishy Happenings. Awesome, that’s what it is. Simply awesome!

Not sure if you noticed, but the home page has a new addition - a listing of the newest links in the Links Directory. You can also display these on your site! Just visit the Link to Fish ‘N’ Chips page and grab the code to add Latest Link Listings to your site.

I don’t really know why anyone got a FeedBurner mailing on February 22 that contained posts from December 2007 and January 2008. I’ve checked FeedBurner and everything seems fine. My best guess is that the night before I was tweaking the design of my neswletter section of the site and it triggered something and FeedBurner freaked out and sent out a mailing that made no sense. I apologize for the inconvenience.
